About this Training

As the pandemic continues, many clinicians have settled on the idea of decreasing or altogether discontinuing in-person care. Research has shown that the mind-body connection is integral in healing trauma and reducing symptoms of many mental illnesses. Many of the available modalities we have accepted as clinicians and culture facilitating mind-body connection involve appropriation and repackaged offerings to clinicians and clients at prices we often cannot afford and call a lifestyle. This workshop will center on anti-oppression, liberation, and access to explore decolonizing the notion of the mind-body connection. We will provide an overview of myofascial release, hands-on a modality to reduce physical pain and emotional release. We will review research supporting body-based techniques’ efficacy and offer clinicians liberatory tools to facilitate clients in self-administering mind-body connection and body-based techniques across virtual platforms.

About Your Trainer

MichellePhillips

Michelle Phillips, ‘The Liberation Strategist,’ is a mental health clinician by training and a spiritual wellbeing practitioner at heart and is a graduate of Seattle University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Education program. Originally from the deep South, Michelle alchemizes grief and loss work, relational neuroscience, systems theory, and the healing wisdom from the diaspora to facilitate embodied intergenerational healing and liberation. Curating and facilitating transformative spaces is why Michelle wakes up in the morning. As a former hospital chaplain, Michelle’s practice integrates commonly missing spiritual and energetic matters for more profound wellness in the community. Michelle respectfully requests ‘they’ pronouns and possessives as non-binary gender identity and an ancestral practice in reverence of and linkage to their unnamed ancestors of unknown lineages, languages, and genders.
